Osbit Opens New Edinburgh Branch as Scotland’s Offshore Wind Sector Surges, Creating New Jobs for Scotland’s Central Belt

Offshore wind engineering firm, Osbit Ltd, expands capacity to meet growing demand in renewable energy sector with new Edinburgh office, creating 10 new skilled jobs for local area.

Osbit’s move to Edinburgh has already created 10 new skilled jobs, and will continue creating opportunities across apprenticeship, graduate and senior levels in a variety of engineering disciplines and supporting roles. The move seeks to tap into emerging talent from the local schools and universities, as well as accessing the wealth of experienced engineering knowledge based in Scotland’s Central Belt.

The firm already takes on around 8 student placements from the University of Edinburgh annually, with 2 students currently based at the new Edinburgh office since beginning their placements at the start of January. Many students who undertake Osbit’s placement programme go on to secure permanent positions with the company following their graduation.

Local Economic Impact & Skills Development

Scotland is at the forefront of offshore wind growth in the UK. Projects such as the Moray West wind farm now supply renewable power to over a million Scottish homes, underscoring the industry’s expanding capacity and economic impact. Osbit’s Edinburgh team will recruit engineers and specialists across disciplines, bolstering local capacity as the Scottish offshore wind sector expands.

Scott Gartshore, Osbit Director responsible for the establishment of the Edinburgh office, comments:

“The opening of our Edinburgh branch signifies our long-term commitment to the sector and our investment in Scotland’s and the UK’s energy transition. To set up this branch in Edinburgh is a strategic growth imprerative. With our existing relationship with local universities and the large investment in Scottish wind, this new office enables us to support major developments in the sector whilst creating high-quality, local jobs. This latest office adds to our engineering capacity of 209 highly skilled jobs in our Northumberland HQ and 12 in our fast growing Netherlands office.”

Osbit designs and builds bespoke equipment to support the build of offshore wind farms. As a formative member of the Venterra Group – a dedicated offshore wind servicesprovider – Osbit has grown dramatically to meet the growing demands of the sector. This move to Edinburgh is indicative of Osbit and Venterra’s long term growth plan to build outcapacity and support the energy transition.
